Assignment
27A – Reading Reflection
No. 3
- What was the general theme or
argument of the book?
- Inbound Marketing by Brian
Halligan explains that social media is an invaluable tool to leverage in
your marketing endeavors. Inbound
marketing places an emphasis on attracting customers online. In order to do this, find your
potential clients and develop a relationship with them so that they keep
coming back to you. Attracting
more visitors should be where most of your priority is.
- How did the book, in your opinion,
connect with and enhance what you are learning in ENT 3003?
- This book is directly linked
to ideas covered in Principles of Marketing. The book is a guide on how to best
recognize and reach your customers.
This book streamlines the process of getting your product exposed
to your targeted customer base. It
provides a structure to follow in order to attract attention and the
visitors you want through your own content and advertising via social
media. Also, as with starting a
business, you don’t need a lot of money to get started.
- If you had to design an
exercise for this class, based on the book you read, what would that
exercise involve?
- I would probably have students
study the impact of using social media for business. Social media is a powerful tool to be
leveraged and taken advantage of. It
is a crucial piece of inbound marketing, so I’d have them develop a
social media marketing campaign for a sample product using Halligan’s
guides and methods.
- What was your biggest surprise
or 'aha' moment when reading the book? In other words, what did you learn
that differed most from your expectations?
- My biggest “aha” moment was when
the authors talked about how you don’t need a large-scale ad campaign to
get your message out there. Success comes from creating new and unique
engaging content for the end consumers.
Social media is the tool to connect to your consumers, and an
incredibly powerful one at that. I
never realized the actual deep importance of social media in relaying a
marketing message. I knew it was
ideal to advertise on online platforms, but never knew it was to this
degree.
Hi Ulysses,
ReplyDeleteI also read this book and found it to be very interesting to me. I have worked through social media a few times and have seen the impact that social media has made on our society and on businesses. My idea for a class exercise was pretty similar, however my exercise included creating a whole page for you company instead of just one marketing campaign. I think both would be great exercises although mine would probably have to be an ongoing one as it would take much more time to start one and keep it up
Hello Ulysses,
ReplyDeleteI did not read this book but I did read The Art of Social Media and by reading your post there are some similarities between the books. Specifically about the importance of social media to businesses and how they can use social media as a tool to their benefit. I like your assignment for the class you designed and think it could be very useful.
Hi Ulysses It’s interesting to me that so many small business’s fail to use the most basic functions that even Facebook offer, let alone other social media websites. Here in small town Indiana we have some great clubs and organizations that would benefit with a bit of legwork with a camera and some updates as to what the club is up to. I’m not sure if one would call this an internal opportunity or an external weakness. Regardless, many of these organizations that I’m thinking about skew towards an older demographic (60s and such).
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing what you learned from the book.
Hi Ulysses, while I didn't read this book, I can certainly tell there were some great points brought up. Over the past two years, I ran some marketing campaigns to help a couple friends open their restaurants. Social media certainly played a HUGE part in marketing, mainly because the customers we were targeting were very active on social media. Social media can really help small businesses compete with corporations, but not all the time. If we were targeting an older crowd, it would have been much less effective since they aren't as active on social media.
